Irma M. Lookermans

Our loving Mom (mummy), Gigi, grandma & great grandma was and always will be to us a proud woman of elegance and grace. Immigrated to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia at such a young age in the 50’s and became resilient, strong, courageous and worked hard for everything she had and made, she lived life to the fullest.

Mom loved and cared for us; she made an impact on those who came into her life throughout the years. Family was everything to her, we could always see Mom in the stands cheering us on, she loved making large, hearty Slovak meals for family, friends and guests. The HOME Mom created was always full of tradition, good smells from the kitchen, always a sense of belonging, laughter, safety, charm but most of all Love. We could always count on Mom and she never hesitated to share affection.

Irma loved playing tennis, so proud of her 25 years in St. George playing in the Senior Games, what an accomplishment! She made many friends that she loved very much. Irma loved her gardening, planting vegetables as well as all her beautiful flowers & plants on her patio – that patio became her pride & joy which she cherished every day. Irma enjoyed playing cards with anyone that she could talk into it, she loved to travel, cook, sew, crochet & knit, her scarf collection was proof of that, most of us have one or five of them. Irma never missed a week of getting her hair done (a point of contention) and took pride in her everyday appearance with her fingernails, the way she styled her home, to the way she always dressed having to look just so.

Our Mom was proud, graceful and elegant! With everything our Mom has endured from the unknown of stepping off that ship so many years ago, the sacrifices, the love, the hardships and the sweat and tears up until the end, makes us take note of just how amazing our Mom is and will always be to us. Our memories are abundant, we love you & we thank you! Time to rest Mom and be with your eternal family.

Our heartfelt thank you to everyone who was able to be by Mom’s side during this difficult time; friends, neighbors, caregivers and Sun Tree Hospice.

  8. That was a wonderful tribute to your beautiful Mom. Thank you so much for letting me in on all the wonderful things she did and the beautiful person that she was. Jesus must be very happy today to have her so much closer.

  9. I have been so honored to take care of Irma. She was the most wonderful woman I have ever met. She was incredibly strong and courageous. We would talk about the wildest things, and we’d also just sit and watch her favorite show (mostly Hoda & Jenna). It breaks my heart to know she isn’t with us anymore, but she is resting. She is finally able to rest without chronic pain or anxiety. I have been honored to be there in her final days. Rest peacefully Irma Lookermans ❤️

  16. Rest In Peace now my sweet friend. Irma will be missed and especially by me when the annual tennis events take place when we could compare notes by phone after moving miles apart. Many memories of court time, lessons and social get togethers are treasured in my life. Some heart breaks for each of us had to be shared. May her family be comforted at this time of loss.

  17. Such a beautiful tribute for a beautiful woman.
Adriane, your Mother was a feisty, joyful little thing! Always upbeat, always made me feel like part of the family, and was always happy to see me!
“Love” is what comes to mind when I think of Irma. From the “Love Is”…newspaper notes she used to send you way back when to the look of admiration she displayed, as only a mother could have, of the pride and joy you brought to her. What fun we have had over the years, all of us and darn it, I never could beat her at snap! In this time of distress, however; I choose to focus on the joy she brought to our extended family friend dynamic.I could not be more proud of the daughter and friend you were to her; so fortunate she was to have you to nurture, provide and care for her over these past several years in particular. She will be missed physically but remain in the hearts and prayers of your greater family & friends always.
I could not think of a more beautiful way to depart this world than to be in the arms of my son or daughter.
Love goes around and comes back around full circle.
She is at peace now and may your family find solace and comfort in that.
Our Sincerest condolences to your entire family,
    Love,
    The Boothman’s

  18. Adriane, Jasmine, Steve and your families; I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet mother. We never usually know an impact we have on others, but being able to recently reconnect with Adriane allowed me to let her, and now all of you, know that Your mother had a very positive impact on my life. I have always remembered The kindness she showed to me during my formative years. It is so important to have positive role-models in life, and your mother was one in mine. I especially remember her delicious sugar cookies and fondue. I have always wanted to make them just like her. Sometimes, it is just the little things that make the most impact. I pray for peace, comfort and understanding as you all go through this difficult time. Sincerely, Kathi CHACON Berreyesa

  29. My Dear Mom, it is with the deepest sorrow, regret and heartache that I write this… Not only were you the most proud, elegant, resilient, kind, loving person… you were also the toughest, courageous person I knew!! Also because of all the everyday sorrows, Life and physical pain you endured over the years, you hid them well through your charm, laughter, smile and love from everyone around you; especially family, friends, life and tennis partners. You were the glue that held this family together with all you knew and even managed not to tell us to keep that person on the top of everyone’s good list…. and in this a short week of many of my tears of you being physically gone…. I now get it!
The only thing I can lastly say, is by all the out pour of love, prayers and thoughts, tributes and memories from a lot of people I know and even don’t know…you were OUR everything and for that I am most “Proud” your Loving and favorite(only) Son…. Steve

  33. Awesome Lady, Dearest Friend and Neighbor
Irma was a wonderful, kind, caring person as all the tributes confirm but for those of us who lived by her day in and day out, she was an example to all of goodness and courage as she faced every heartache and challenge with grace and dignity. It was so fun to just visit and chat about life in general as well as our trips to THE Veyo Pie Shop. If she couldn’t go, she always brought a goodie back and we did likewise. Our lives were greatly enriched because she was a part. It was a pleasure to help her because blessings came from being her friend. It was nice just to have someone to chat with and we will dearly miss her wit and wisdom. Jerry and Jan

  34. My meeting with Irma was very brief a couple of years ago at Lake Tahoe. I regret that we didn’t get to know each other. Fortunately my children and the Vlassek children did know one another and I’ve connected with Adriane in recent years and we enjoy a very personal and loving relationship. My heart is saddened and aches for your loss Adriane, Jasmine, Steve and families. The wonderful tribute to Irma is testimony to her love, faith, family, friendships and caring nature. She was beautiful inside and out. She is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior and resting peacefully in eternal life. My prayers, thoughts and love are with you all. Ruth Abdo

Truly inspirational, a wonderful woman who will be very greatly missed.

  37. It was a blessing to know Irma. I was always impressed with her beauty inside and out. She was kind and loving every time I would see her. Irma was a wonderful grandmother to my cousins Dominic and Anthony. Amazing friend to my grandmother Mary, they shared so many good times together. You can see the love Irma had for her own children was unconditional. My Aunt Adriane loved having her mom close and being with her as much as possible.
