Walter Dixon

Walter Oakman Dixon Jr., age 94, passed away April 17, 2025, in St. George, Utah from natural causes. He was born April 1, 1931, to Walter Oakman Dixon, Sr. and Mary Ella Outlaw in Camden, South Carolina.

Walter married Eva Sigrid Porsboll December 24, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they had five children, Rolf David, Irene, Michael Deny, Eva Lorraine, and Walter James (Jimmy). He and Eva eventually separated. Throughout his lifetime, he had several wives, all of whom are deceased, except Jan Berger.

Walter was raised in South Carolina during the height of racial discrimination and the great depression. Growing up, he and James worked along with their father, who was a meat cutter. His high school years were only the beginning of his desire to seek knowledge, reading every book in the high school library, twice. Because of this, he was known among his classmates as "professor". he Graduated from St. John's High School, in Darlington, South Carolina, class of 1949.

Walter enlisted in the armed forces in July 1951 and received an honorable discharge in July 1952. After serving in the military, he returned to Salt Lake City, Utah, continuing his education and eventually becoming a Chemist. During the 1980's, while working for Ultradent as an R&D chemist, Walter created a berry flavor for an oral topical anesthetic gel, now known as the Walterberry flavor.

In his later years, Walter moved to Centennial Park, Arizona where he worked diligently for the next eighteen years with the Centennial Park Water Company until 2013. Often seen riding his bike around town, he became a well-known and beloved community member.

Throughout his life, Walter enjoyed classical music, opera, scenic drives and above all, attending his religious services. In his declining years, he was taken in by the Alma Hammon family, living in their home, where they cared for him, along with Zion's Way Hospice. He was eventually moved to Seasons Health and Rehabilitation in St. George, Utah.

Walter is survived by his brother, James Edward Dixon Sr., wife Jan Berger Dixon, and children Irene, Michael, Eva and James. He is preceded in death by his infant sister Doris, Rolf (son), James (grandson) and his wives Eva, Nancy, Suzanne, Solidad, and Lolita.

A viewing will be held at the Alma A Hammon residence at 480 West Harker Avenue, Colorado City, Arizona, Sunday Evening April 27 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Graveside services will be held April 28, 2025, at the Centennial Park Cemetery, at 6:00 P.M.
