Virginia Burnham Hammon 'Markham'

Virginia Burnham Hammon ‘Markham’ passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on June 12, 1937, in Boise, Idaho to Alma Joseph Burnham and Minnie Mae Lewis. As the second child and oldest daughter in the family she gained a love of gardening and a strong work ethic from her parents. Virginia was like a mother to her siblings.

She graduated from Davis High School where she took several business classes that later contributed to her professional career in bookkeeping. Virginia married J M Hammon in May of 1955 and spent her life in service to his family. She taught typing and shorthand at the Colorado City Academy and is fondly remembered by her students there. In 1975 she began work as a bookkeeper for Pneudraulic Tools where she worked for 27 years. She was loved and valued for her steadiness and consistency.

Virginia spent her ‘retirement’ pruning, mulching and caring for the yard well into the last days of her life. She loved flowers and birds and the joy of growing beauty. She had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and demonstrated it by extending peace, love and loyal friendship to the ladies and children in her home and community. Virginia nurtured the strength and growth of others and gave them a place to blossom.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Minnie, her husband, Marion, her children, Merle, Dan, Rebecca, Lloyd, Lewis, Lucene, Rose, Maureen and Roberta, and brothers Bruce A. Burnham and Mark A. Burnham. She is survived by her siblings Kathryn Cox, Janett Warner, Zina Blackmore, Alma Joseph Burnham and John Lewis Burnham as well as many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her loyal and steady nature and as a loving Mother to all.
