Terry Wayman

Terry Oliver Wayman passed peacefully from this life surrounded by loved ones at his home in Riverton, Utah on April 16, 2024, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Terry was born on June 27, 1955, to Clayne Orlo Wayman and Betty Lou Barlow in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He attended grade school at Riley Elementary, middle school at Glendale, and high school at South High. He graduated from “South” in June of 1973. He was very active and athletic, and excelled in any sport he pursued. Basketball was his favorite.

He loved working with his hands and was immersed in the shop program at high school. His interest leaned particularly to the wood-working side of the program, specifically lathe turning and natural wood finishing. He would often take firewood logs from home to school and turn them on the lathe in the shop creating bowls, lamps, table, and chair legs among other items, and present them as gifts to friends and family.

He married Christine Nielson in January of 1977, and they went on to raise twelve children together. In time, other ladies joined the family unit with Terry and Christine, and they all shared in raising a large posterity.

The son of a meticulous craftsman, through various jobs Terry developed trade skills in carpentry, concrete, demolition, wood finishing, various painting and other construction related skills including management, which lead him to start his own construction company in the spring of 2004, which has been the mainstay of the family’s resources since its inception.

He loved home and home life. His farm animals and annual vegetable garden gave him tremendous pleasure and satisfaction.

His faith, loyalty, passion, drive, and work ethic were unmatched, and he tried to the best of his ability to pass on what he learned to his family and many others related and unrelated to whom he was known as “Uncle Terry” or “Grandfather”.

Terry was exceptionally charitable with his time, talents, and resources through which so many have been immensely benefitted and blessed.

He dared greatly, loved deeply, made everyone laugh and can be aptly characterized through the words of Theodore Roosevelt:
 "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved “Mother Anna”, and his granddaughter Hannah Barlow. He is survived by his other ladies and the numerous posterities of children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

A public viewing will take place from 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton, Utah.

Public viewings in Centennial Park, Arizona at the Centennial Park Chapel will take place from 7:30 – 9:30 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, as well as on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 11am – 1:00 pm prior to the funeral services.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Centennial Park Chapel with interment to follow in the Centennial Park Cemetery.
