Stanley B Shakespeare

Stanley B Shakespeare, 92, passed away peacefully February 26, 2025, at the Ivins Veteran's Home with family cheering him on.

Stanley (Stan) was born to Grover & Delna Bulloch Shakespeare August 20, 1932 in Cedar City, Utah. He was greeted at home, in St. George, by five step-siblings although the term 'step' was never used in the family that eventually numbered twelve. Growing up in St. George was a boy's dream.

Stan attended local schools and graduated from Dixie Junior College. Prior to serving in the West German Mission, he was drafted into the US Army at the end of the Korean war and stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Returning home he met and married Barbara Jane Larkin in the St. George Temple, and together they attended Brigham Young University; Stan graduating with a Master of Education Administration degree. Stan began his first teaching assignment at Cedar City North Elementary where he would remain for 35 years. A much-loved 5th grade teacher, he was famous for his bear stories and for his interest in his students both in and outside the classroom. He was every student's "favorite teacher". After retirement Stan and Barbara taught English in Qingdao and Beijing, China through the Brigham Young University Kennedy Center.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stan was "all in!" He and Barbara attended the Cedar City 4th Ward for 59 years. His church responsibilities included serving as Bishopric Councilor, High Councilor numerous times, a Young Single Adults Bishop, and a dedicated home teacher. Stan and Barbara were missionaries in the Spain Bilbao Mission and provided humanitarian service in Beijing, China. Stan and Barbara served with the Southern Utah Public Affairs. A favorite was serving together in the St. George and Cedar City Temple Baptistries.

Scouting played a major role in Stan's life. From scoutmaster to District Chairman, he served with enthusiasm and gifted leadership. He always appreciated those he served with and their effort to provide quality experiences for young men. He was a Silver Beaver recipient. Stan was one of the founders of Thunder Ridge Scout Camp on Cedar Mountain.

Stan was community minded; he served on the Cedar City Library and Community Relations Board and as a member of the Son's of Utah Pioneers and American Legion organizations.

Above all, Stan was a family man, his mantra was "Let's Get THE FAMILY Together!" He always gathered his own and numerous neighbor children for tubing, hiking, skiing (driver only), trips to the college farm and bike rides to the railroad tracks. When grandchildren arrived, trips to McDonalds were a must! He rarely missed anything his children or grandchildren were involved in and was known as "Everyone's Grandpa". On New Year's Day 2020 Stan and Barbara moved home to St. George to be closer to family; Crystal Lakes #1 with the "party patio" was the place to be.

Known as "Lovely Day" by some of his siblings was an apt description of Stan. A man without guile, full of kindness, always optimistic, ready to listen without judgment. Faithful to his church, family, community and country.

He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 65 years, children; Scott (Melissa), Kevin (Jerilyn), Carole (Tom) Hulet, Brent (Kristi), and siblings David, Mary Mason, Tom and Steve. He is proceeded by daughter Suzanne. Stan requested that his remains be donated to the University of Utah Medical School for research.

The family will be hosting a "Heavenly Graduation" Meet & Greet for Stan on March 7th from 5-7:30 PM at the 2450 South Chapel located at 2079 East 2450 South. Casual dress. No gifts or flowers, but memories welcomed. Please join with us.
