Rodney Kurt Abramowski of St. George, Utah, left this earthly home on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the age of 87.
Rod was born on December 26, 1934, in South Gate, California, to Kurt Emil and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Giesewski who immigrated to the United States from Eastern Germany.
Growing up, Rod excelled in sports and set many records in track and field, learned to play the violin and gave many recitals, but probably greatest of all was his singing voice. He would sing over the radio as Ronnie Reed, sang in church every chance he got, and performed at several military functions. Rod even had his own band called Sunshine & Rhythm. He also served in the United States Navy Reserves and was on active duty for the United States Army.
In 1953, he met his sweetheart JoAnn Page and were married in the St. George Temple on July 9th. Together they had 6 children. Their family’s journey began in the San Bernadino area where Rod worked for Stater Bros. Markets. After a long career there he switched gears and became director of Albertson’s Supermarkets in Rexburg, Idaho. He retired with them after a long and successful career.
Tragedy struck him and the family when JoAnn was killed in a car accident on March 19, 1992, near their home in Rexburg. After years of grief, sorrow, and heartache, Rod found Marci Ackerman and married her in the St. George Temple.
Rodney is survived by his five children Jeffrey Abramowski, Suzanne Prater, Denise (Doug) Bateman, Sheldon (Shelli) Abramowski, and Leslie (Brad) Dewey, his wife Marci and her five children Debbie (Gerry) Hansen, Gerene (Kenny) Mason, Chris Jensen, Jerid (Adina) Jensen, and Karlee (Matt) Welch, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Page, daughter Chris Ann Abramowski, son-in-law James Gasser, in-laws Lawrence and Ilene Page, sister-in-law Audene Page, sister Darlene Hurdsman, brother-in-law Joseph Hurdsman, and Marci’s daughter JaNell Lavae.
