Frank Robert "Bunk" Robinson

We are sad to announce that our loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend, Frank Robert (Bunk) Robinson, age 84, passed away on Thursday August 10, 2023. Bunk was born September 17, 1938, in Hollywood, California to Robert and Helen (James) Robinson. Bunk was joined in marriage with the love of his life Dian Winget on July 19, 1991, and they shared the most amazing life of love and service together.

Bunk grew up in Pasadena, California, and later moved with his family to Colorado where he attended a small private prep school before attending the University of Colorado, where he played football. He later decided he wanted a smaller school and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he attended Westminster College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science. Bunk was a patriotic man and served in the US Army in the early 1960’s.

Most of his career was spent in radio and tv broadcasting, and Bunk was a respected executive in Utah.  He served as Partner and General Manager of KLUB and KISN, as well as General Manager of University of Utah’s public radio station KUER. Later in his career, Bunk relocated to the central Oregon coast where he turned to broadcasting technology and served in several sales and leadership roles before retiring. He was past president of the Utah Broadcasters Association and the Salt Lake City chapter of the Kiwanis Club.

Bunk’s true passion was his love of people - especially his family. He was a gentle, soft-spoken man with a warm smile and a beautiful voice who cared deeply, loved passionately, listened intently, and gave of himself unconditionally. He was a true conversationalist - he knew how to listen without judgment and make any person, from any walk of life, feel important and special.  His wife and family meant everything to Bunk, and he was always present for them both physically and emotionally. He never missed a game, a school activity, a graduation, or a party, even when he wasn’t always feeling well physically. He taught all of us what it meant to be a man, a husband, and a father. Bunk was a friend to all, and he had a positive impact on each person he encountered. He will be greatly missed.

Bunk also loved the outdoors and was an award-winning photographer. He loved sports, and he loved the University of Utah.  In his spare time, Bunk would be found fishing on lakes and streams, especially with his son Geoff and grandchildren, and sharing his love of golf with his sons Geoff and Ben, as well as son-in-law Dylan, and grandson Carter. He was a true fan of the University of Utah sports teams, too, and Bunk religiously flew the U of U red, white, and black on game days, and he particularly enjoyed singing the U of U fight song to the BYU fans in the family.

Bunk was a man of strong faith and loved the Savior, Jesus Christ.  He was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which he joined later in life. He was baptized in1996 by his youngest son Ben, and later sealed to his wife, Dian, in the St. George Temple in 1998. Bunk and Dian served a mission in South Africa from 2010-2012, which was one of the most rewarding experiences of his life.  Over the past 27 years, Bunk served in many leadership positions in the church and various civic organizations, including President of Sons of Utah Pioneers of the Cotton Mission. Two of the most influential men in his life were his father-in-law, Larue Winget, and his best friend, Cal Durfey. Both preceded him in death, Bunk missed them dearly.

Bunk is survived by his beautiful wife, Dian and his 6 children - Geoff Robinson (Venus) of Las Vegas, NV, Shawn Lindquist (Natalie) of Salt Lake City, UT, Hilary Jacobs (Jeff) of Henderson, NV, Nikki Hasson (Reed) of Lehi, UT, Celeste McEntee (Dylan) of Newport, OR, and Ben Lindquist (Kati) of Washington, UT; his 17 grandchildren - Amber Hasson, Jillian Gold (Logan), Michael Hasson (Liz), Ryan Jacobs (Bri), Carter McEntee (Amanda), Chase Lindquist (McKaley), Alec Jacobs, Kennedy McEntee, Megan Bigler (Mason), Kaprice McEntee, Cassie Robinson, Luke Lindquist, Makenzie McEntee, London Lindquist, Lydia Lindquist, McKay Lindquist, Lincoln Lindquist; and his 5 great grandchildren - Nixon Bigler, Henry Gold, Benson Gold, Callum Hasson, and Juniper Hasson.

Bunk is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Robert Robinson, as well as his sisters Joan Coon of Los Alamos, NM, and Ansley Carnahan of Burlington, VT.
