Nadine Gatherum

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at home on Christmas night after battling pneumonia. Despite her declining health the past couple of years she led a long and fulfilling life.

Nadine Allred Boyack Gatherum was born October 10, 1943, to Howard Boyd Allred and Betty Rowe Allred. She was the oldest of six girls. Her parents and grandparents taught her the value of hard work at an early age.

In 1958 Nadine married John Kent Boyack. Together they raised three children. Nadine was a devoted mother and spent many hours teaching her children to read, cook, sew, and become strong independent people.

After her children were in school Nadine enrolled at the University of Alabama Huntsville, earning a bachelor's degree in nursing. She loved her profession and worked in a variety of challenging positions until her retirement from Mesa View Medical in 2011. She left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients with whom she came in contact.

In 1987 Nadine married Lloyd Richard Gatherum and gained four additional daughters. They worked in several different cities across the country before settling in Mesquite, NV where they later retired.

Nadine was infamous for her offbeat and witty sense of humor. Her family will always remember the wickedly funny birthday cards she sent. She was also known for her sense of adventure and was always game to try something new. She especially loved winning a jackpot, dressing and decorating her home in style, any family get-together, and trips to Lake Powell with her family.

Nadine was the family matriarch and glue that bound us together. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her sweetheart and husband Lloyd Richard Gatherum; children Marcy (Tom) McIntosh, Andrea (Steve) Smith, Brad (Becky) Boyack, Heather (Riley) Ney, Haley (Josh) Davis, and Darci (John) Cole; sisters Michelle Nielson, Jan Carter and Laura Allen; twenty-five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Boyd Allred and Betty Rowe Allred, first husband Kent Boyack, sisters Jean Lejardi and Leslie Lupher, and stepdaughter Heidi Gatherum.

Nadine wished to be remembered with joy and laughter. At her request there will be no public funeral. Instead, a celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
