Our mother, Maxine Pymm Hafen, born August 26, 1931, in St. George, Utah, passed away peacefully in her home on June 25, 2023. She was the second of five children born to Walter and Bertha Miles Pymm. Mom attended schools in St. George. After graduation, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Walter Snow.
She married Eldon E. Hafen in the St. George Temple on September 12, 1953, and they were happily married for seventy years as they raised their family in St. George.
Maxine enjoyed playing sports in her early years and later became an avid quilter. She also had fond memories of “club” with her girlfriends. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she had many church callings and supported her husband when he was called to be Bishop. Later, they served together in the St. George Temple.
Mom spent many hours cooking and baking for friends and family. She made delicious bread and baked many cinnamon rolls while serving a mission with her husband in Southern California. She also spent many hours cooking in the old ranch house kitchen in Barclay, Nevada. Mom loved playing games and as she got older would play Phase 10 with anyone who was willing. Maxine was very close to her only sister, Lois Jean Adams, and the two families spent many fun times together.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon, a son-in-law, Orvil Stout, a grandson-in-law, Jeremy Young, and two grandsons, Skyler Hafen and Lincoln Christensen. She is survived by her sister, Lois Jean Adams; her children: Kristine (Lynn) Hatch, Shauna Stout, Brent (Rhonda) Hafen, Sheryl Bowler, Scott (Beverly) Hafen, Kerry Hafen, and Natalie (Tyler) Christensen; 26 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.
The first visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah.
