Matt "Matty" Mortensen

Matt (Matty) Mortensen, 34, of Hurricane, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2023.

He was born in St. George at Dixie Regional Medical Center, son of Perry and Yaira Mortensen.

Matt was a lover of life and just a lover in general, he always wore his heart on his sleeve no matter what. He loved his family very much, especially his nephews and nieces. He had an especially close bond with his nephew, Zerrik, who always looked up to his 'Uncle Man' and shared many adventures together, riding and just hanging out.

He was also a lover of extreme sports including water sports, snowboarding, skate boarding when he was younger, but especially riding motorcycles. He picked up on anything he tried and quickly became an expert, he was very talented that way. He was willing to try any extreme sport you thew his way and he was fearless of any dangers or consequences. Life on the edge, that was Matty.

He loved camping with family and friends and loved the desert. Music was one of his best friends as well. He liked anything from country to hard rock, he just always had his music playing. Matt had many friends and was always a hit with the ladies. He was a dream on the eyes and had a smile that could brighten any room. His laugh was contagious and one that you'd recognize anywhere. Matt loved his blue Toyota Tacoma and proudly drove it around town showing off the things he had done to it.

Matty was a Momma’s boy. He came to her for advice, hugs, shelter, a warm place to land, a home cooked meal and back scratches. He always knew his Mama prayed for him daily and was always so appreciative. The bond they shared is unbreakable even in death. Lastly, Matt knew his Lord and Savior and he knew exactly where he was going when he died. That is certain and gives his loved ones a tremendous amount of peace.

He is survived by his loving parents, Perry and Yaira Mortensen, brother, Mason Mortensen (Katee Timothy), sisters, Maria Herpin and Hope Hogan, brother-in-laws, Greg Herpin and Jared Hogan, nephews, Zerrik Herpin, Ezra Herpin, Jude Herpin, Gideon Hirschi, Henry Hogan, Lucca Hogan and River Hogan, and nieces, Bella Hirschi and Laela Herpin. Matt is also survived by many other extended family that he loved very much. We also feel that we need to include that Matt was preceded in death by his very best friend and companion, Kilo, whom he loved more than life.
