Lt. Colonel Harold (Hal) Dean Coleman, Army, Retired, age 84, passed away Thursday March 16, 2023. He was born September 22, 1938, in Provo, Utah to Arthur and Viola Coleman. He married Karen Crane June 16, 1962, in Salina, Utah.
Harold was raised in Orem, Utah and graduated from Lincoln High School. He then attended Westminster College where he played football before enlisting in the Marines. After basic training, he enrolled at Utah State University where he graduated in 1962 with a BS in Industrial Arts Education, and later an MA in Administration.
He spent the next 25 years serving as an officer in the US Army. He served in San Francisco, Darmstadt and Fulda Germany, El Paso Texas, Vietnam, Okinawa Japan, Phoenix, Iran, and Ft Devens Massachusetts. He survived three helicopter crashes and a roadside IED in Vietnam. He retired honorably as a Lt. Colonel. He then taught Industrial Arts at several high schools for 15 years before retiring permanently to play golf, travel, and garden.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Karen Crane Coleman, his daughter Sheri Coleman Olcott, 7 grandchildren Chase Coleman, Austin Coleman, Reid Coleman, Haley Olcott Harward, Brian Olcott, Jason Olcott, Justin Olcott and 4 great grandchildren Hadlee Olcott, Harper Olcott, Gregory Coleman and Olive Coleman. He is preceded in death by his son Gregory Coleman, great granddaughter Brooklyn Harward, and three brothers.
Two funeral services will be held. A viewing will be held Thursday March 23, 2023, at 10 am with a memorial service following at 11 am at Spilsbury Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 25 N 2000 W, Hurricane, Utah.

A viewing will be held on Friday March 24, 2023, at 12:30 pm with a memorial service following at 1:30 pm in the Relief Society room at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 3050 N Mojave Ln, Provo, Utah 84604. A graveside service will follow the memorial at the Orem City Cemetery in the lower lot where he will receive full military honors.
