Lester John Hampton

Lester John Hampton, 88, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by family in Saint George, Utah.

Lester was born on June 25, 1934, in Mullen, Nebraska, to John and Marie Hampton.

Lester joined the Navy on September 21, 1954, and was honorably discharged on September 16, 1958, with the rank of Electrician’s Mate First Class Petty Officer. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After his discharge he attended Milford Vocational College in Milford, Nebraska and earned his degree as an Electronics Technician. This served him well as he was first employed by the Nebraska Safety Patrol as an Electronics Technician in Sidney, Nebraska.

Lester met and married his love and best friend, Rebecca (Becky) Mariscal on July 1, 1961.  After their wedding they resided in Sidney, Nebraska until accepting a position with the Bureau of Reclamation/Department of Energy in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He served as a supervisor electronics technician in charge of the communications for this department, with oversight of four states including Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and Montana. Lester and Becky resided in Cheyenne until he retired on January 1, 1990. Lester and his Becky both enjoyed traveling and traveled to all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and took several cruises through The Panama Canal, the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Baltic Seas. One of their most memorable was a trip to Rome, Italy (Vatican City) where they were blessed to attend a personal audience with Pope John Paul II.

Lester was a Jack of all trades. He built and remodeled several things for us. When he visited his relatives, he was always building things for them and helping out. He always kept busy. He enjoyed making and repairing everything. He was a wonderful husband and father. We all love him and will miss him every day.

Lester is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of nearly 62 years, daughters, Debra Treadway (Matt) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Kim Hampton of Saint George, Utah, Sister-in-Law Caroline Mariscal of Saint George, Utah, who lives with us, Carlene Anderson of Edmonton, Canada, Joan Rocha (Ray) of Meridian, Idaho, Susan Hampton of Oakdale, California, Barbara Heck of Fairfax, Virginia, and several Cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Hampton, Siblings Roy Hampton, Donna Presnell, Mary Newman, Ivene Trew, Jack Hampton, Shirley Szyphegyi, Bonnie Vecchione, Johnlyn Rand and Margaret Foster.

Our appreciation and special thanks to Dixie Hospice for the care given to Lester and all the help they provided. Special thanks to Aimee, Cindi, Georgia, and all others who took care of Lester.
