Larry Richard Shelley

January 11, 1949 — May 18, 2023

St. George, Utah

Larry Richard Shelley was born on January 11, 1949, in St. George, Utah, to Walter and Rebecca Holmes Shelley. Larry was welcomed into a blended family to siblings he loved.

Larry attended Dixie High School where he met and married the love of his life, Penny Johnson. They were married on October 7, 1967, and were later sealed in the St. George Temple. They were later divorced but remained devoted parents and friends. They were blessed with two sons, Travis and Trampus.

Larry worked with the City of St. George Water Department, but after his cancer diagnosis, he found that he had to retire. For many years, he was an active member of the St. George Lions Club where he looked forward each year to the Dixie Roundup and his participation in both roping and serving up hot dogs and BSing with his fellow members. Throughout his life Larry was well known as a championship team roper, having several saddles and buckles to show for his accomplishments. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved camping and hunting with his boys. Family was always foremost to Larry, and as grandchildren and great-grandchildren were added, he beamed with pride and enjoyed as much of their company as he could.

Larry is survived by his eternal companion Penny Shelley, his sons, Travis (Sam) Shelley and Trampus Shelley, grandsons, Ty (Mariah) Shelley, Colton (Mishelle) Shelley, Jade (Braydon) Dalley, and precious great-grandchildren Bryar, Tuff, Cohen, Remington, and Kimber, brothers, Bert (Chris) Shelley & David (Kathy) Welch, and sister, Dorothy (Rex) Stermer. He is also survived by a very special friend Lori Purdie to whom the family wishes to express their gratitude for the devotion and care she shared with Larry.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brothers, Dean Shelley and Charles and Jimmy Welch.

Dad, you guided us down the path of life to make us better men, husbands, parents, and grandparents. You will be deeply missed until we are reunited.
