Washington, Utah – Kurt Boyd Holyoak passed away on April 1, 2023, after a long hard battle with (PSP) Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was strong, upbeat, and still maintained a sense of humor to the end. Anyone that asked him how he was doing he would respond by saying, “I’m still alive”. There will forever be a void in our lives without him.
Kurt was born May 28,1959 in Cedar City, Utah to Boyd Holyoak and Frances Beal Holyoak. Kurt had one sister, Lynn Holyoak Mundt. Kurt grew up in St. George, Utah, graduated from Dixie High School, and attended Dixie College. He dated his wife, Ruth Porter, in high school, and married her on May 18, 1979. After 41 years of marriage, they were sealed to each other for time and all eternity in the Cedar City Temple on November 03, 2020. They were blessed with three children; Brock Holyoak, Logan Holyoak, and Shaylee Holyoak, and were also blessed with four grandchildren, Drake, Easton, and Ella Holyoak, and Frankie Hernandez.
Kurt was a team roper and rodeoed throughout his life. He was a member of the St. George Lions Club for many years and served as the Race Chairman and Rodeo Chairman in the same year. He worked most of his life in the construction field. He built many homes, poured a lot of concrete, and made many people happy with his craftmanship. He loved horses, hunting, fishing with his close Idaho friends, and spending time with his family on Summit Mountain. The deer hunt was the highlight of the year! He had many friends and was loved by all who knew him. Kurt had a great sense of humor and will forever be known for his laughter, friendships, kindness, and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children: Brock Holyoak (Tawnya) of Cedar City, Utah, Logan Holyoak (Kristin) of Ivins, Utah, Shaylee Holyoak of Washington, Utah, four grandchildren, Drake, Easton, Ella, Frankie, three step grandchildren, Jodare (Ana), Tara (Jimmy), and Justyne; three great grandchildren, Raiden, Jeramiah, and Jaylen; sister, Lynn Holyoak Mundt, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and two nephews, David (Courtney) Mundt, and Paul (Randi) Mundt. He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Holyoak of Las Vegas, Nevada, stepfather, Fred Christensen and mother, Frances Christensen of St. George, Utah.
We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the many doctors and caregivers that gave their ongoing dedication, and kindness. Kurt would like to give special thanks to Sun Tree Home Health and Hospice, Pauline Bale, Trinity, Lacy, Kason and Kay. Doctors Rachel Allen, Steven Larsen, Kelsey Barrell, and Curtis Carter for their sincere friendships and concerns.
