“Kevin Howes hits it out of the park!”

September 11, 1967- August 21, 2024

Our sport enthusiast was a dedicated and passionate player and watcher of baseball, football, golf, and a touch of soccer. However, when it came to life, he played every day like it was his last time on the field, running with determination for the love of the game. Winning or losing didn’t matter so much compared to the details that composed the magic of time and spending it well.

He recently recited a quote, saying, “The present is a present.” This was exemplified every second in his ways… Always daring to try and trying his best, having some fun, never giving up, being with the people he loves (his life teammates), helping others (playing for those who couldn’t), snacking on celebratory concessions with a side of good music, nicknaming, and funny one liners to seal life’s every play.

He believed in walking up to the plate, no matter how much at stake, even when your knees might shake, and then hitting with all your might! That anyone can embody excellence despite your ability or rank and that being dusted with dirt, scraped and bruised, with scuffs on your shoes was the greatest stamp of a victory.

Naturally, he was a teacher from start to finish, through his words and actions. And ironically, in the classroom, where he taught twelve years of the fourth grade. He saw endless sparks in the eyes of his students and felt privileged to pitch to them motivation and steps to succeed. With recess never out of sight, they all looked forward to commemorating their hard work with a ball game.

The list goes on with this hall of famer and the positions he unshakably played… a hardworking and heartfelt husband to Niesje, a hero and best bud to his two daughters Averie and Stevie, a committed and loving brother to Eric and Kyle, a devoted and willing son to his mom and dad Fred and Marion, and unwavering friend to all.

On that same note, music wrote so much of the man we rock out to. It was his greatest coach; the lyrics, his locker room speech. A sound that brought him home to his family in the mountains where he’d close his eyes and let the songs of Fleetwood Mac, David Gilmour, and Steve Perry (to name a few) carry him.

Just the same, the song he was to us all is a chorus line we will forever sing. It’s the memory of him that lives on through us.
“Because good songs never fade,
They carry themselves through the years and every age.
A gift that can never be replaced.
(The story of) Something (or someone) that will forever remain.”
