Kenneth Lee Jones

Kenneth Lee Jones, 83, passed away on March 1, 2025. He was born in Pueblo, CO, to Nolan & Louis Jones on November 18, 1941. He married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn "Dorene" Major, on July 14, 1962, and settled in Colorado Springs, CO where they raised two children.

Ken was a Retired Colorado Springs Police Officer and Detective for 26 dedicated years. Ken then moved on to a Professorship in the Criminal Justice program at Pikes Peak Community College, where he taught future law enforcement students for over 20 years before he retired again. He left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Ken "Butch" was a die-hard Harley "Dude", cruising on road adventures with his buddy Retired CHP Police Officer Al Bartok. He was a life long member of the Freemasons, and an avid outdoorsman & hunter with his buddy Retired Colorado Springs Police Officer Dan Dirscherl; and he was an accomplished marksman and firearms instructor.

Ken was always quick with a funny little saying or twisted pronunciation of words - those who knew him know exactly what I mean! He definitely had a great sense of humor and a zest for life that is an inspiration to all who knew him!

His life was a testament to the power of compassion and the importance of family. He was fiercely loyal to his friends and family, and even in death he has left his mark forever in our hearts. He retired recently to St. George, Utah, with his family.

Ken is survived by his lovely wife of 63 years, Dorene Jones of St. George, UT; his children: Dorri Jones Werner of St. George, UT, and Deven Lee Jones of Las Vegas, NV; Grandchildren: Karrie Werner Hennigar (Michael) of St. George, UT, and Kassie Werner Jessop (Nathan) of Spanish Fork, UT, Trenten K Werner (Chelsea) of Charlotte, NC, Tristen E Werner of St. George, UT, and Dustin J Jones (Naomi) of Centerville, VA, Great Grandchildren: Draker, Parker and Kimber Hennigar, Zedek Jessop, Kinsley, Ariyah, and Calyana Jones, and Lavinia Werner. Ken is also survived by his sister Kaareen Jones Arriaga of Pueblo, CO; nieces; Mellissa DeAngelo and Michelle Colarelli, both of Pueblo, CO, Shereen Rasor of Yukon, OK, Laura "Shay" Knowles of Colorado Springs, CO, and nephew: Darren Pickerel of Pueblo, CO, as well as all of their children

His song for us was always a Don Williams song called "When the rivers all run dry."

"'till the rivers all run dry 'till the sun falls from the sky 'till life on earth is through I'll be needing you."

Well, I'm changing the last line to "We'll be loving you!"

As he wished, there will be no funeral services or viewing. All he asked is that we all hold one another tight, say "I love you" often, and go make memories with our families! In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations in his name to any Fallen Police Officers Family Funds with your local Police Department.
