Kennedy Zola Terry
October 26, 2014, to March 10, 2022
Kennedy Zola Terry was born October 26, 2014, to Trevor Marion Terry and Starley Dawn Nuckles. Kennedy was immediately a light to her family, although she had some special circumstances and challenges right from start.
Kennedy was diagnosed with MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) syndrome. MELAS is a rare disorder that begins in childhood, usually between two and fifteen years of age, and mostly affects the nervous system and muscles. MELAS also includes extreme fatigue. As her illness progressed, she faced increased challenges with her mobilities and cognitive function that she endured well. Although her childhood looked different than most, she found extreme joy in the activities she loved.
Kennedy loved spending time with her family. When Hudson, her brother, was born, she always wanted to be near him. She loved sneaking into the playmat to lay next to him and help him play. We know their reunion was wonderful and tender! She was joyful and carried a special light within her and could brighten up any room. Kennedy would never pass up a party and loved a good van ride. In the early days, her binky went everywhere with her and was always hanging out the side of her mouth as she chewed on it. Although many people made her smile, her real favorites were Elsa and Anna. Everything revolved around Frozen! She seemingly had every Frozen shirt and toy ever made and she was always looking for more. When Reese, her sister, arrived, Kennedy was thrilled. Kennedy loved to hold her, play with her, and snuggle her close. She loved playing her tablet and laying by mom and dad. One of her favorite past times was shopping! No matter how tired she was, she was always up for a shopping trip. Her go to stores were T.J. Maxx and Target and she always had to, “say hi to the toys.†She was a master table swiper and could grab a plate and throw it before you knew what was happening!
Trevor and Starley want to say thank you to everyone who helped Kennedy be her best self during this life. She had so many people in her corner, and we appreciate all her doctors, therapists, teachers, aides, and others who were so important to her growth and success. We will forever be grateful to you.
Kennedy was preceded in death by her brother Hudson Jay Terry who now has a special charge to watch over her there. She is survived by her parents, Trevor and Starley Terry, St. George UT, sister Reese, grandparents Dave and Trisha Terry, Ivins, UT, Marilyn Nickles, Las Vegas, NV, Dale and Debbie Nuckles St. George UT, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
