Kay Leslie Christian, age 74, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Surrounded by her loving family, her soul winged its way into eternal life to join her husband and soulmate. She was born on March 25, 1950, in San Diego, California to Leah Stout Pearce and Rufus Pearce.
Having grown up in parts of California and Nevada, the family eventually moved to Hurricane, Utah where Kay would attend high school. With a love of the arts, she excelled in drama at Hurricane High School where she participated in many productions and competitions. Kay would go on to attend Dixie College where she would meet the love of her life, McKay Donald Christian, as well as many life-long friends. McKay and Kay were married in the St. George LDS temple and Kay would always say her most rewarding position was that of a mother to their six children. Kay was a supporting spouse to her husband throughout medical school, the medical practice in St. George, and managing the family bookstore Doc's Book Loft. While her children were young, she served on the PTA and was a proud safety commissioner who was instrumental in installing the crosswalk and crossing guard on 700 South.
With a love of reading and writing, Kay compiled short stories, poems, and family biographies. She created art through porcelain doll making and tole painting. She became very talented at creating life-size figures for her home's yard at Christmas time. Many would drive by to see the displays at her home in Morningside Park, as well as the family bookstore on Main Street.
Kay had a passion for everything Christmas. Her house was known for its abundance of Christmas trees and decorations. Over the years the community could browse through her house at Christmas time as part of the Holiday Home Tour. As a chairwoman and designer for the Jubilee of Trees for many years, she loved being involved in the charity for the hospital. She created a way for many to afford exceptional Christmas trees by accepting re-donated trees known as Previously Loved Trees. Along with her husband and daughters she designed 15+ different trees, winning awards on many of them.
Kay had an ardent testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many capacities in the Primary, Young Womens, and Relief Society. Her favorite callings were Stake Relief Society President, Ward Newsletter Editor, and Family History Consultant and teacher.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband McKay, her grandson Burkley Hansen, and her only son Derek Christian. She is survived by her five daughters: Darcie (Alton) Chamberlain of St. George, Rachel (Matt) Andrew of Melba Idaho, Tamara (Clint) Hansen of St. George, Toni Brown of St. George, and Laura (Josiah Dave) Shrout of Central, as well as 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
