Katsuko Weiss, a resident of Toquerville, Utah, 92 years of age, passed away Friday, December 20th, 2024. She was born on January 1st, 1932 in Fukuoka, Japan to Hajime and Yoshi Inoue. In 1955, she married Louis M Justa in Okinawa, Japan. They had 2 daughters, Ida and Deborah, and were married until his death on December 5, 1967. On October 5, 1972, Katsuko married Calvin M Weiss in Las Vegas, NV. They remained married until his death on October 19, 2015.
Katsuko grew up in Kumamoto, Japan. She left Japan at 23 with her American husband, who was in the US Air Force. She soon found herself in Las Vegas, NV. Her incredible talent and skill in fashion design and sewing were the basis of her successful small business called Kime Lee Uniforms, creating custom uniforms and costumes for hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, NV. The most iconic being the Caesars Palace Cocktail Server uniforms she designed and produced from the day their doors opened in 1960 until she retired in 1995. She was very dedicated and active in her religious organization, the SGI Buddhist Organization, which strives for world peace through individual happiness. Katsuko was one of the first members to bring Nichiren Buddhism to America. Friends and family remember her for her bright smile, positive outlook and warm encouragement.
Katsuko is survived by her daughter Ida Larsen and son-in-law, John S. Larsen of Toquerviller, UT; grandchildren Danial Fong and Stefani Fong of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Timothy Lohrey, Louis Lohrey, Ava Lohrey, and Lily Lohrey of Toquerville, Utah; great-grandchildren Jazmine, Laylah, Bailee, Daxton, Blossom and Hazel. She is preceded in death by her daughter Deborah Fong and husband Calvin Weiss.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the SGI-USA Las Vegas Buddhist Center. 2725 W. Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89102
