Karen Chynoweth passed away March 1, 2024, after battling cancer.
Karen was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose memory will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Born November 14, 1950, in Richfield, Utah, to Melvin Poulsen & Delma Jean Collins. Karen married Gordon Chynoweth November 29, 1969, in Richfield, later sealed in the Manti Temple December 3, 1978.
Graduating Summa Cum Laude from SUU and obtaining a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, Karen passionately taught her beloved students for 32 years, finding inspiration and joy in nurturing them beyond academics.
Karen was involved in Girls State from 1982 to 1986, finding it valuable for teaching young women about responsible citizenship and nurturing a strong love for our country.
Family and friends were the center of Karen's life, and she cherished her community in Ivins, Utah. Her unwavering faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life.
She is survived by her sons, Carson (Jamie) Chynoweth and Matthew (Nicole) Chynoweth of Spanish Fork, Utah; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Danny Poulson (Debi) of Richfield, Utah, and Michael Poulson (Barbra) of Orem, Utah. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Chynoweth, her father, Melvin Poulsen, and her mother, Delma Jean Collins.
At the end of this journey, we carry your love in our hearts, forever grateful for the warmth and light you brought into our lives. Rest peacefully, Mom, knowing your love will guide us always.
Services to celebrate Karen's life will be held on Friday, March 8th, at 11 am at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St, St. George, Utah.
