Joel Barlow Zitting was born January 22, 1955, in Murray, Utah, the second son of Allen Christensen Zitting and Laura Jean Barlow. His father died five weeks before he turned three years old. Joel passed away peacefully May 10, 2022, in St. George.
Joel graduated from Skyline High School as a Sterling Scholar in Art and Art Crafts and designed the cover for the 1973-74 yearbook. He attended Utah State University.
Joel made art his career, working in California to create his own graphic arts business and for a time designed neon signs for Disney. He entered greeting cards he had designed into a national Creative Visual Arts Competition where he won second place. He was a potter extraordinaire, as well as extremely talented in glass blowing. His many pieces of art are treasured by family members.
The kindness and generosity to Joel from his Uncle Gordon and Aunt Dorothy Zitting is sincerely appreciated.
Joel was preceded in death by his father; his brother Allen Barlow Zitting; stepfather Ernest Van Bibber; his Uncle Gordon. He is survived by his mother Laura Jean Van Bibber; sisters Sarah Green, Heather (Ken) Bond; brothers Benjamin (Jean) Zitting, Michael (Nicole) Van Bibber; sister-in-law Claudia Zitting; stepbrothers Brent (Sylvia), Bryan (Manja), Steve (Cheryl), Curt (Cindi), Brad (Maria) Van Bibber; Aunt Dorothy; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Joel requested there be no funeral. His wishes have been honored.
