Jeniene Hamelwright

August 17, 1933 — May 12, 2022

Jeniene Hamelwright, age 88, passed away at the Sagewood Care Center in South Jordan, Utah on May 12, 2022. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born to George and Ruby Young in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 17, 1933. Jeniene grew up in Carbon County and graduated from Carbon High School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Gale Hamelwright, on March 14, 1952, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Jeniene grew up in Price, Utah, where she spent many summers at the city pool watching her sweetheart Gale perform countless cannon bombs that soaked everyone near her.  After they were married, the Air Force assigned Gale to Wichita, Kansas.  While Gale served in the Air Force during the Korean War, Jeniene worked at the telephone company.  She saved their money, paid tithing, and had enough to buy a car when Gale completed his tour.

Jeniene and Gale loved to travel.  They had a group of friends in Fort Collins, Colorado that planned fun adventures from camping to cruising.  This group was known as the CHUMS… Collins-Hobnobbing-Unquailed-Mobile-Saints and boy did they know how to have fun!  Jeniene also received her Masters of Gardening from Utah State.  She definitely had a green thumb.

Jeniene knew how to get things done.  She served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in the community.  She loved Relief Society.  She loved to serve the ladies in her church.  She also served as the President of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum in St George, Utah. She was organized and enjoyed a good challenge.  She also served a Family History mission with Gale in St. George.

After Gale passed, Jeniene moved to live with her daughter Keri and son-in-law Brian for over 5 years.  Even though Jeniene had many challenges, she was unwavering in her testimony of Jesus Christ.  Her faith gave her strength to overcome many trials in her life.  She was an example of goodness and Christ-like love both in her word and deed.      She is survived by her daughter, Keri (Brian) Morris, daughter Kristy Hamelwright, daughter-in-law, Roxanne Hamelwright, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband, Gale C. Hamelwright, son, Arthur G. Hamelwright, son, Mark C. Hamelwright, and her parents, George and Ruby Young.

We would like to thank Canyon hospice angels that assisted us, especially Nurse Jeremy Bodtcher, RN.  His calm demeanor and loving voice brought such peace to our home.  He brought joy to her in her last chapter of life which we will be forever grateful. A viewing will be held from 10:00 â€" 10:45 am Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Spilsbury Mortuary (110 S. Bluff Street, St. George) and interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery (1777 S. Dixie Drive, St. George).
