Howard Sholes Keele, 92, passed away March 21, 2022
He was born July 16, 1929, in Murray Utah to Francis Marion Keele and Effie Charlotte Sholes.
Howard lived in Holiday, Utah the first 12 years of his life with his parents, brother David, and sister Jean.
The family moved to Las Vegas and spent time between there and Lake Tahoe. Howard learned his baking skills while a teenager in Lake Tahoe, where a German baker took him under his wing and taught him bread making. In high school he learned automotive repair, welding, and engine building.
His other skills include his great love of music, playing his bass fiddle and playing songs by ear on the piano at night, in our home, while we did the dishes. He never learned to read music, he heard it a few times and could play it. He loved jazz and played with many friends off strip in Las Vegas.
He married Georgetta Sansom in the 1950’s in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and St. George. They are the parents of: Debby, Becky, Ben, Sam, Laura, and Effie. In March of 1967 Georgetta passed away unexpectedly leaving Howard with 6 children to raise.
Howard was introduced to Esther Foote soon after. Esther had 5 children of her own, Howard, Marilyn, David, Virginia, and Carol, who passed away 2021. They married and had one more, Jennifer, to make an even dozen. They lived in Las Vegas until 1974 then moved the family to Santa Maria, CA. Our family business, the Tan Top Bakery in Orcutt, CA, supported the family.
After the children were raised, they started their service of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The missions they served were Mexico and the Islands of the South Pacific. At the end of this service they settled in Ivins, Utah. Howard resided there until his passing.
