At exactly 11:00 am on Thursday, August 3, 2023, Frank opened his piercing blue eyes, offered one last breath, and left earth in St. George, Utah, on a cloudless summer day, at home, embracing the Redrocks with his chosen family. Frank was born — a spirited spring baby — on April 12, 1954, to Eva Gayle Sellick and Franklin Earl Matheson, the first of six children, in Fort Meade, Maryland.
As a young boy Frank enjoyed the youthful adventures of scouting and fulfilling his curiosity by venturing throughout the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. Later, Frank attended East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. By the time he graduated, he had grown to six-foot, four-inches tall, many calling him the "Perfect Ginger.”
It was no surprise that Frank did the expected of a young Utah man. First, he began his collegiate studies at the University of Utah, then took a two-year hiatus to become a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Frank enjoyed learning Spanish and absolutely loved Argentina. He was fascinated with the food, people, and culture. He enjoyed being a leader amongst his peers. When Frank returned to Utah, he came back to his studies at the University of Utah, and even ran for ASUU President.
Later, Frank enjoyed a very successful career in commercial real estate in both San Francisco, California, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Frank first left for San Francisco and loved what he called the "Big City" life. As he developed his acumen for business, he found the freedom and openness to be his true self. Frank ate, drank, and indulged in this new life.
Later, Frank came home to Utah to help family and embrace his profession in a new market. He particularly enjoyed his long-term association with Zions Bank. Frank embraced the business community and was fascinated to see Salt Lake City grow.
World-wide travel was just one of Frank's many passions. He came back to Argentina some twenty years ago, and with tears in his eyes, said, "I will live here again someday." He didn’t wait for someday, and purchased a home there, visiting often. Frank enjoyed collecting art and attending a great symphony. He particularly enjoyed the spirited sounds of Mahler, Beethoven, and Mozart. Frank loved keeping fit. yet was frequently in search of the perfect martini or margarita accompanied by the perfect meal.
It was no surprise that Frank wanted to give back to the community. He worked tirelessly with Equality Utah and was an originator with the Victory Fund. Frank's generosity to family and friends held no bounds. Frank loved love. He spent a lifetime searching and hoping that one - special night could turn into a lifetime of nights.
Survivors include his dear parents and family, Bobby, Greg, Cody and many, many friends.
