Annette Nelson, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in St. George, Utah. Born on September 9, 1937, in Hiawatha, Utah, to Dean Petty and Florence Behunin, Annette lived a life full of laughter, discovery, and devotion to her family and community.
She was married to her beloved husband, Orvel Nelson, on August 13, 1955, and together they shared 70 years of inseparable companionship. Annette and Orvel met at Ferron Resort, and their bond was unbreakable. They raised their family in Sunset, Utah, where Annette and Orvel worked together at Sunset Junior High School, creating lasting memories with students and colleagues alike. Together, they built a cabin that became their cherished home away from home, a place of peace and joy for their family.
Annette was a woman of great creativity and generosity. She made and donated many blankets to those in need and spent much of her time volunteering with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her love for nature was boundless; she enjoyed hiking, snowmobiling, ATVing, and exploring the beauty of the outdoors. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to find joy in the little things, always radiating positivity and kindness.
Annette's children were her greatest priority, and she spent her life supporting and encouraging them in their endeavors. She was our Desert Rose, with a core of inner strength, beauty, and generosity that touched everyone around her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support will forever live on in the hearts of her family.
She is survived by her husband, Orvel; their children: Bruce, Debra, Greg, and Teri; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Annette's love for her family was her greatest treasure, and she leaves behind a legacy of devotion, encouragement, and care.
