Elna Jean Sip

Elna Jean Sip (Roundy), 79, of Hurricane, Utah, passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2025. She was born on October 3, 1945, in Logan, Utah, to Joseph Moroni Roundy, Jr. and Joyce Elna Scott.

Elna grew up in Cache Valley and graduated from Logan High School in 1963. She continued her education at Utah State University, where she spent two years "chasing young men" and ultimately met the love of her life. Over the years, Elna lived in several places, including Belle Fourche, South Dakota; Roswell, New Mexico; and various locations throughout Southern Utah, ultimately settling in Hurricane, Utah, where she lived for 39 years.

Elna was a passionate traveler, with a love for exploring the country. She enjoyed boating at Bear Lake, Hyrum Dam, The Green River, and Lake Powell. She proudly drove her bright orange Road Runner across the states, from New Mexico to South Dakota and rural Southern Utah, often with her children in tow. While living in Hanksville, the Highway Patrol frequently joked about her lead foot as she traveled between Hanksville, Richfield, and Price. A competitive spirit defined much of Elna's life, and she enjoyed racing her car on the ¼ mile drag strip in Hanksville. She had a deep affection for the Oregon Coast, Olympic National Park, the San Juan Islands, and Vancouver Island, where she was captivated by the lush greenery and ocean views. Living in Hurricane provided Elna countless opportunities to visit Kolob and Zion, two of her favorite places. She treasured spending time with her family, teaching them to love gardening, fishing, and camping. Music was another great love of hers, and she especially enjoyed the songs of Neil Diamond, ABBA, and the musical Phantom of the Opera.

A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elna served in many capacities, including Relief Society President, Young Women's President and Counselor, Camp Director, and Gospel Doctrine instructor. She had a deep and abiding testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was diligent in her learning and service.

Elna had a diverse and accomplished career. After graduating from Dixie College, she worked as a Legal Assistant for Larry Belliston, a job she greatly enjoyed. As a talented interior designer and florist, she made an impact in her community working as the lead floral designer for Designer Furniture and Taipan. Elna also owned two floral design businesses: Victoria's Garden and Wild Blooms Floral Design. Later in life, after reading every book in the library, she discovered a love for quilting, a skill she had learned from her mother and aunt. Her custom quilts, gifted to her grandchildren for high school graduations, will forever be treasured as reflections of her love and creativity.

Elna is remembered for her talent, kindness, and generosity. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were touched by her beautiful designs, adventurous spirit, and loving presence.

Elna is survived by her five children: Travis Sip (Paulette) of Plain City, Utah; Lisa (Anthony) Oliverio of Hildale, Utah; Justin Sip (Cheryl) of Toquerville, Utah; Wade Sip (Jacie) of St. George, Utah; and Monica Hall of Hurricane, Utah. She was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and is also survived by her brother, Carlos Roundy of Meridian, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jon Lyle and Kay Scott Roundy.

A memorial service to celebrate Elna's life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 155 East 1050 North, Hurricane, Utah at 11:00 a.m. A visitation and receiving line will be held prior to the funeral from 9:45 to 10:45 at the same location. Interment will take place in Toquerville, Utah following services.

Elna's children would like to express their gratitude to Ron and Stacy, as well as all the medical technicians and staff at Heritage Home Assisted Living, for their love, patience, and kindness toward Elna and her family during her final years.
