Elliot Arnold Foote was born on January 14, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arnold LeRoy Foote and Thelma Bernice (Axelrod) Foote. Early in life, Elliot faced a significant health challenge with a bout of rheumatic fever that resulted in lasting physical limitations. Despite this adversity, he demonstrated exceptional resilience and determination in his life pursuits. One of these was pursuing his Eagle Scout award. Though ultimately incomplete due to the physical demands of the swimming requirement, Elliot was able to showcase his unwavering commitment and perseverance.
At the age of 18, following a family tradition, and at the behest of his father, Elliot joined the Navy, where he served for the next three decades, serving active duty until 1975 and retiring from the reserves as a Chief Yeoman (YNC) in 1992. Upon his retirement, Elliot was given a pendulum wall clock with a built-in plaque. One of his postings was as a recruiter, like his father, which made him bitter about Tricare and the false promise in the recruiting manual about free healthcare.
A highlight of his years of service was his experiences traveling around the world which introduced him to a wide variety of foods. Elliot loved to host family functions and have family and friends sample new recipes, especially from the Frugal Gourmet.
Following his service, he pursued higher education, earning a double bachelor's degree in Finance and Management from the University of Utah while serving as a campus police officer. Later, he continued his academic pursuits, obtaining a Master's in Management from Westminster College.
He worked as a gravel pit inspector for the state of Utah before he opened and operated a real estate brokerage. He earned a CCIM certificate in 1982. He also worked at the Utah State Tax Commission, earning a retirement from the state of Utah.
After which Elliot moved to Mesquite, Nevada, in 2005 to be closer to his mother during her last year of life. After her passing, he tried his hand at the real estate market in Nevada, ultimately retiring from that as his 3rd retirement. In approximately 2010, he purchased a house as a joint home with his sister Rosie and brother-in-law Allen. After a few years, they decided that they would sell their portion of the house to Elliot to be the sole owner. This house made it nice because it had a ramp that allowed his niece, Jenni, who was in a wheelchair at the time, to visit. When Jenni and her husband both lost their employment, he took them in and they helped him as much as he did them while his failing health continued to change how he was able to live his life.
Due to his extensive education and experience, Elliot was trusted by many for his counsel on matters of finance, real estate, and business.
Being a Jew was important to him and he insisted on observing some of the traditions, such as Hanukkah, Passover, and Rosh Hashanah. Elliot is fondly remembered for inventing "Hannakuh Claus", which was his way of accommodating his Christian family and saving himself some money on presents as well.
Factors contributing to his death on March 19 include pericardial effusion, pneumonia, kidney failure, melanoma, diabetes, loss of eyesight, and a sharp blow to the head from a fall.
Elliot is survived by his brother Daniel (Jackie) Foote. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Foote, and his sister Rosanne "Rosie" (Allen) Foote Johnson. Elliot was also beloved by a large extended family and many colleagues. Elliot valued God and family and will be missed by many.
