With heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Dorla Dean McFarland Lynn on October 2, 2024, at the age of 87. Dorla was born February 10, 1937, to George and Luella McFarland, in the home her father built in Depew, Oklahoma. She was the middle of three children, with her older brother, Gib, and her younger sister, LeeAnn, who was her lifelong best friend.
At the age of 6 her family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she attended school and was very popular with students and teachers. She married Kenneth Fred Lynn, the love of her life, on March 25, 1969 in Reno, Nevada. Together they raised 5 children and eventually moved to St. George, Utah.
Dorla was a woman of warmth and generosity. She had a timeless sense of style, never leaving her house without her signature heels. Her family meant the world to her and she poured her love into every dish she made, every hug she gave, and every word of wisdom she shared. An avid cook, Dorla had a special talent for making any meal a feast, always believing that butter was the key ingredient to happiness. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where countless family gatherings were held, filled with laughter, love and the aroma of her famous recipes.
Dorla was her families biggest cheerleader, attending every sporting event or special occasion that she could. Whether she was baking their favorite treat or spending quality time with them, she made sure to make everyone feel special. Dorla shared a deep and special love with her late husband, Ken. Their bond was one of true companionship, as they spent nearly all their time together. They enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, but their greatest joy came from playing golf side by side. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda Johnson of Nephi, UT, Wes Lynn (Karla) of Mona, UT, Jeffrey Lynn (Ana) of Tucson, AZ, and Kendra Hawes of St. George, UT, 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, and her sister, Leeann Babbitt of St, George, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Kenneth Lynn; 1 brother, Gib; son, James Boyd Lynn; brother in law, Milton Babbitt; son-in-law, Kayle Johnson,; and great granddaughter, A’niyah.
A private family service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a meal with your loved ones in her honor, using a little extra butter, just the way she would have liked.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary. 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to share memories on Dorla’s digital memorial page at www.SpilsburyMortuary.com
