Donna Mae Cox passed away September 17th 2024 at her home in Virgin Utah. She was born December 26th 1935 to Pearl and Bert Johnson. She married Sherwin Cox on May 8th 1955.
Donna was raised in Scipio Utah and attended high school at Millard High in Fillmore. She and Sherwin met in High School. They graduated in 1954, and Sherwin enlisted in the army where he went into Special Forces and became a Green Beret paratrooper. Donna traveled to South Carolina where Sherwin was stationed, and they married in Dillon South Carolina and lived in Fayetteville. Donna loved living in the south and often spoke of traveling back to visit. After the Army they lived in Las Vegas, Montana, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix. Their son Gary was born February 9th, 1958, and their daughter Kelly was born on November 27th, 1962.
The family moved to Hurricane Utah in 1963, and Sherwin started his truck driving career. After 10 years in Hurricane, they moved to Kanab Utah before finally moving to Virgin in 1980. Donna worked at a local store for a while before quitting and joining Sherwin driving truck. Sherwin taught Donna to drive the diesel truck, and they drove long haul routes coast to coast and occasionally into Canada. In 1986 Donna decided to stop driving truck to help Sherwin’s cousin Garth and to provide childcare to her 3 grandchildren. While at home in Virgin Donna also worked at the local Virgin post office and at LaVerkin Elementary school in the early intervention special needs program. Donna retired on her 74th birthday. Sherwin passed away from colon cancer in June of 2001. Donna and Sherwin were sealed in the temple in 2003. Donna had a long-standing job with the church doing compassionate service which she truly enjoyed and found rewarding.
Donna is survived by her son Gary Cox, daughter Kelly Cox. Grand children Ricki Triplet (Alvin Triplet), Aaron Cox, Stephanie Beard (Michael Beard) Colton Cox (Fatima Cox) and her Great grandchildren Jaden, Dustyn, Kylie, Chasten, Cierra and Atticus.
Donna is preceeded in death by her husband Sherwin Cox, her mother Pearl Peterson, her sisters Margie, Sherly, and Larue and her little brother Jim.
A visitation will be held at the Spilsbury Hurricane Valley Mortuary on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 10:00 to 10:45 am. The funeral service will start at 11:00am. 25 North 2000 West, Hurricane, Utah 84737. Following the services, interment will take place at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
