Deanna Lee Cox

Deanna Lee Cox, age 77, resident of Central, Utah, passed away on September 23, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born June 21, 1947, in Salt Lake City. Deanna was raised in Salt Lake City and loved spending summers on her aunt and uncle’s farm in Pleasant Valley, Utah, playing with cousins, swimming in the canal, feeding bummer lambs and cuddling the latest litter of kittens. She married Bob Henderson when she was nineteen and their daughter, Korrie, was born the following year. Within a few years Bob developed kidney failure. She was his caregiver for fourteen years. They moved to St. George and later divorced. One of Deanna’s jobs was working at The Brandin’ Iron Restaurant in Pine Valley. There she met the restaurant owner, Gerald Cox, who became the love of her life. They married, June 21, 1992. Later they were sealed for time and all eternity the St. George Temple. Together they ran The Brandin’ Iron for twenty-five years. Deanna improved the steakhouse with cute curtains, increased efficiency, and the planet’s best cheesecake. She had always liked cooking, especially in large quantities, so the restaurant was right up her alley. She had fun helping Gerald with student projects in his fifth-grade elementary school classroom. She liked to explore ghost towns with Gerald and scavenge for old bottles and other collectibles. Deanna loved sewing and quilting. At one point she had two long arm sewing machines and, on each, a quilt in progress. Her expertise with quilting really was an art.

Deanna was known for her kindness, this combined with her energy and talents resulted in projects of quantity. When Chase was in elementary school she would sew little gifts for his holiday parties, making one for each of his classmates. She looked out for others and loved her family. She was a legend at gift giving. She even remembered nieces and nephews on birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas. She has been a second mother to grandson, Chase, who is her joy. His pictures can be found tucked in every drawer. She will be greatly missed by her brother, David, her sisters, Christy and Barbara, three grandsons, and two great-grandsons. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald.

In appreciation we acknowledge support from the community of Central and Gerald’s family.

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 176 E Center St., Veyo, UT. 9:30 am - 10:30 am Viewing. 11:00 am Memorial Service. Burial at the Pine Valley Cemetery.
