Loving husband, Father, and Grandfather David (Dave) Bergan Blood passed peacefully in his home in St. George, Utah on July 20, 2023, at age 76 after an eight-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Dave was born to Helen and Dale Blood on July 19, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Affectionately called Beanie or Davie as a child, he was a mischievous and adventurous boy who grew up in the Sugarhouse area of the Salt Lake Valley and graduated from Highland High School in 1965.
An avid golfer, traveler, and family man, Dave takes with him a lifetime of memories from snorkeling off numerous beautiful coasts to golfing at some of his favorite courses. He loved sharing stories of his 18 cruises and the many places he saw. He also made “memories for our hearts” with his family, creating experiences for them to whale-watch in Alaska, swim with dolphins in Cancun, and enjoy countless live performances around the country including local Tuacahn productions.
A bit of a perfectionist with a love of gardening, Dave enjoyed working in the yard and maintaining his perfectly edged lawns and vibrant, immaculate flowerbeds. Some of his cherished possessions were his red Corvette and his collection of coins/pennies as well as numerous antiques for his homes. He was also very thoughtful, carrying on valued family traditions like new pajamas on Christmas Eve or lucky $2 bills tucked in everyone’s wallets.
Dave’s nearly 50-year successful career as a salesman was fueled by his charisma, customer service skills, and keen ability to read people. He sold semi-trailers, real estate, home mortgages and furniture, earning top salesman awards for ten years – four at Utility Trailer Sales and six at Granite Furniture.
Dave is survived by his wife Janet Blood, his brother in life Rich (Karen) Bergan, children Jason (Marsha) Blood, Stacy (Derek) Schmidt, Devin (Erica) Blood, Daren (Shannon) Blood, Tanya (Jim) Masteller, and Krista Langton (Timothy Jean) as well as 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Dale, and his aunt, Peggy Mumler.
The world has lost a remarkable man, but Dave’s legacy will live on in his family and other loved ones for generations to come. They can’t think of him without laughing or rolling their eyes at his one-of-a-kind sense of humor.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 31 at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St. in St. George. A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service.
Family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to view the funeral service online by clicking on the link below.
The graveside interment will be held at Tonaquint Cemetery immediately following the services and then a reception will be held at the Crystal Lakes Clubhouse.
The family extends their gratitude to Dixie Home hospice care team, particularly Shauna “Sophie” Weiland and Mackenzie Kunz, for their exceptional and heartfelt care throughout Dave’s final chapter.
