Daniel Keith Goetzman of St. George, Utah passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022. He was 77 years old, born to parents Wayne and Claudine Goetzman on May 16, 1945, in Willmar, Minnesota. He was the youngest of four children. He had two sisters Judy, Karen, and brother Jerry.
Dan spent his early years in Minnesota where he enjoyed the outdoors doing such activities as skiing and ice fishing. In his teens the family moved to Sacramento, California where he attended Encina High School and graduated in 1963. On March 17, 1965, Dan enlisted in the Marine Corp where he served four years. After his honorable discharge from the service Dan registered at California State University in Sacramento and on June 2, 1978, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Management Information Science. Dan put his degree to use by working in the Data Processing Field at California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Daniel met his wife Sharon wile they were both attending college at the California State University and were married on August 22, 1971, in Sacramento. They shared 51 years of marriage in which they enjoyed camping trips with the family and cruising. Dan leaves behind his beloved wife, three daughters Kimberly, Valerie, and Ashley, two sons-in-law, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a mother-in-law Dorothy Foster, his sister Karen and her family and brother Jerry and his daughter.
Dan’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family. When they were first married Dan and Sharon loved camping with the Goetzman family. Their first year of marriage took them on a camping trip from California through the state of Utah where they fell in love with the St. George area. It took them 40 years to eventually retire and move from California to St. George. Dan loved cruising and taking excursions in Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii. He found a great joy in riding dune buggy’s and taking his grandsons and daughters out on rides. He loved zip lining and did so whenever possible.
Upon retiring, Dan and Sharon moved to Sun River Senior Community in St. George. They both took up Lawn Bowling and Bocce Ball. Dan enjoyed competing in Lawn Bowl during the Huntsman Senior Games. After being in St. George for a few years, Dan joined the St. George “Dixie” Lodge #1743 of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. Dan joined first and then a year later he sponsored Sharon. They became very involved in the events of the Elks. Dan served a year as Inner Guard but had to give it up due to declining health.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S Bluff Street, St. George, Utah.
