Clawson Judd Burgess, age 84, passed away on December 21, 2022. He was born February 7, 1938, in St. George, Utah to Dixie Judd and Joseph Clawson Burgess. He married Janice Beckstrom on April 20, 1962, and was later sealed in the St. George temple on June 15, 1965.
Judd lived his entire life in Pine Valley and St. George. He graduated from Dixie High School and attended Dixie College. He served in the National Guard for 10 years. He was an extra in several John Wayne movies and he also worked on the roads for the state of Utah. Judd then started several businesses before he ended up working as a civil engineer for the City of St. George for 26 years, at which point he retired.
Judd traveled extensively (between St. George and Pine Valley). He spent his Summers working the fields and tending his garden in Pine Valley, with his dogs always close by his side. Never has the statement “A man’s best friend” been truer, than with Judd and his dogs. He has always had a dog in his life, up until the last year when he lost his two best friends Aussie and Odie. He was patiently waiting for their reunion.
Judd is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice, and their four children of St. George, Kason (Melanie Burgess), Nikki (James Rimer), Shana (Spencer Wells), and Jeremy Burgess. Judd had 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother-in-law Clayton Neilson, sister Jeri (Dennis Iverson), and sister Jackie (Dusty Fonnesbeck).
Judd is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Jo.
His four children are in agreement that he taught them the values of hard work, integrity, thrift, honesty, and respect. And they will be forever grateful.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff Street, St. George, Utah 84770. 435-673-2454.
