Carrie Ann Peterson

Cedar City, Utah - Carrie Ann Peterson, 75, returned to her heavenly home March 29, 2025. She was born February 1, 1950, in Evanston, Wyoming to Phillip and Julia (Andersen) Willams. She married Merlin Peterson January 10, 1970, in Granger, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Utah Temple, 1972. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Carrie was raised in Evanston and moved to St. George at age 12. She graduated from Dixie High School in 1969. She lived the remainder of her life in St. George except the last two-and-a-half years while she was a resident of Stonehenge of Cedar City to be closer to her daughter.

Carrie worked as a room cleaner at the Sands Motel at age 14-15. When she was 18, she worked at a plumbing shop answering phones and doing light bookkeeping. After marriage, she was employed at Moore Business Forms in the Accounts Receivable department. She later worked as a lunch secretary at East Elementary, then West Elementary Schools in St. George. Finally, she retired as a Washington County School District lunch secretary, processing and approving applications for free and reduced meals for students in the district.

Her husband Merlin was the love of her life. She would often go camping and fishing with him, helped take care of the books for his business, and enjoyed their life together raising their daughter Amy and sons Joy and Jens in St. George. They were rewarded with seven beautiful grandchildren, whom she adored. She patiently cared for Merlin in his declining years as his strength and stamina was taken by Parkinson's disease.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and loved to read and watch old westerns. She was especially proud of the quilts and Afghans she made for her children's weddings and babies, as well as her daughter's wedding dress.

Asked about her likes, she said, "my family is the top of the list." She enjoyed visits and calls from her family. She had a special love for her pets, chocolate and flowers. She entertained herself at Stonehenge by teasing and harassing the CNAs. They loved and doted on her all the more. The nurses were especially generous with the chocolate snacks she loved so much.

She is survived by Brothers Russell (Twyla Beutel) Williams of Green River, WY and Don (Nhu Deng) Winton of Des Moines, WA; her daughter Amy (Randy) Cosby of Cedar City, UT; sons Joy (Brenda) Peterson of Spanish Fork, UT, and Jens Peterson of Eugene, OR; Grandchildren Amber (Jared) Williams of St. George, UT, Rachel (Jerry) Cosby-Bregg of Lehi UT, Clarissa (Brandon) Youngberg of Orem, UT, Phoenix Peterson of Spanish Fork, UT, David Cosby of Salt Lake City, UT, Morgan (Zack) Fausett of Spanish Fork, UT, and Daniel Cosby of Cedar City, UT.

She was preceded in death by her husband Merlin Peterson, parents Julia Winton and Phillip Williams; and siblings Carl Williams, Fay Wilde and Jerry Williams.

Funeral services will be held April 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Red Cliffs 3rd Ward chapel. 1285 North Bluff Street in St. George. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Interment will take place in the St. George City Cemetery.

The family gratefully acknowledges the special care given by Charlotte Beatty in her home and by her friends and staff at Stonehenge of Cedar City and Canyon Home Care and Hospice.
