Arden B Stratton passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at his home in Hurricane. He was 92 years of age.
Arden was born June 20, 1931, to Thomas and Leona Morrill Stratton at the family home in Hurricane, Utah. Arden’s mother passed away when he was just 10 years old. He lived and worked on a small farm in Hurricane, where he developed a love of farming and caring for animals. He assisted his father in the family business of growing and selling peaches. Arden grew up during the Great Depression and the Second World War when resources were scarce, and many relied on hunting to supplement their diet. Arden became a skilled hunter and enjoyed hunting until his mid 80’s.
When Arden was 13 years of age his father married Fern Slack. They later adopted 4 children, adding another brother and 3 sisters to Arden’s family. Arden was a good student, excelled in track and field events, and graduated from Hurricane High School in 1950.
After graduation Arden was introduced to Allene Wright. It was love at first sight. Arden began courting Allene, and they were married in the St. George Temple in February of 1952. Arden and Allene were blessed with 3 boys.
Arden enjoyed being with his family, hunting, gardening, and raising farm animals. He was a great husband, father, and friend, and was very service minded.
Arden was a carpenter, cabinet maker, and concrete worker. He owned and operated the Hurricane Cabinet Shop, and later worked for many years for his cousins at Stratton Brothers Construction. He built municipal water tanks for many communities in Utah and neighboring states. He was a hard worker and very skilled. Arden touched many lives for good.
Arden is survived by his wife of 71 years, Allene Wright Stratton of Hurricane, sons Michael D. (Dendra) of Toquerville, Brent W (Evelyn) of Hurricane, and Marlon D. (Diann) of St. George, 12 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Arden was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas, Leona, and Fern Stratton, brothers Thell, Ward, and Marlow, sister Clara Stratton Hart, infant sister Leona, and granddaughter Michon Stratton Paddock.
