Patsy Ann Pratt Durfey, loving wife of the late Cal Durfey, passed peacefully at her home in St. George, Utah on January 6, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family after a brief, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born January 28, 1942, in Deseret, Utah, Ann was the eldest child of Dana Richmond Pratt and Angie Mace, and a nurturing sister to Marcia and Mace. Her formative years in Hinckley and Delta, Utah, were marked by academic excellence, dance, cheerleading, and a love for Nancy Drew novels.
Ann married Jim McCormick after high school. They had three children together, Cynthia, James, and Amelia. After their divorce, Ann demonstrated remarkable strength, dedicating herself to raising her children as a single mother while balancing a demanding career.
A transformative move to St. George, Utah in 1987, brought Ann closer to family and introduced her to the love of her life, Cal Durfey. They married in the St. George Utah Temple on August 12, 1989, blending their families and embarking on a life steeped in service, love, and faith. Ann and Cal's commitment to family was unwavering. They attended countless family events, and their home was a sanctuary for grandchildren when needed.
A lifelong, devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ann, alongside Cal, served three full-time missions and one service mission. Their work took them to Africa, Germany and Hong Kong, where they dedicated themselves to humanitarian efforts, including relief operations following the Indian Ocean Tsunami.
Ann pursued higher education later in life, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree. After graduation, she became a mediator and adjunct professor in the Communications Department at Dixie State College.
Diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer on December 26, 2024, Ann spent her final days surrounded by family. Her enduring legacy is one of selfless service, educational pursuits, and a deep-seated acceptance and belief in the value of all people.
Ann is survived by her 8 children, Douglas (Joan) Durfey, Cynthia (Frank) Duty, James (Jennifer) McCormick, Dana (Daryl) Brooks, Dexter (Candice) Durfey, Diane Mathis-Durfey (Camila Gill), Amelia (Shane) Haycock, and David (Kimberly) Durfey, 38 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and her dear sister, Marcia (Kelly) Cooper.
Funeral services will be held at the St. James Ward, 1095 E St James Lane, in St. George, Utah, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, with interment at the St. George Cemetery. Prior to the funeral, friends and neighbors may offer condolences to the family from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the Relief Society room.
The family would like to thank the Dixie Hospice Program and the nurses who provided comfort and helped alleviate pain during Ann's remaining days. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Humanitarian Aid fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, honoring Ann's generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
Funeral arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary. 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah 84770. 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to share memories on Ann's digital memorial page at www.SpilsburyMortuary.com
