Amelia Gifford Spendlove

Amelia Gifford Spendlove, 73, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021. She was born May 20, 1948, Fort Ord, Monterey, California to Lawrence Gifford and Thelda Snyder. She married Spencer Spendlove, September 23, 1966, in the St. George, Utah temple.

Amelia’s father served in the United States Army. In her youth, she lived in California, Oklahoma, Utah, and Germany before returning home to Southern Utah where she attended and graduated from Hurricane High School where she met her husband. Amelia worked with her husband herding sheep for several years and raising five children. She had various jobs ranging from cleaning houses to baking the world famous bumbleberry pies at Bumbleberry Inn in Springdale, Utah. In 2001, her family moved to Karnes City, Texas where she worked in banking and later was a housewife. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held various callings including chorister, Primary president, and Relief Society president. She recently moved back to Southern Utah where she had just moved into her new home in Apple Valley, Utah when she returned to our Heavenly Father.

She is survived by her husband, Spencer Spendlove of Apple Valley, Utah, her mother, Thelda Gifford of St. George, Utah, her brother Merlin Gifford (JoAnn) of Saratoga Springs, Utah, her five children: Kern Spendlove (Marian) of Karnes City, Texas, Tracie Stewart of Apple Valley, Utah, Jeff Spendlove (Annie) of Apple Valley, Utah, Jill Clawson (Roger) of West Plains, Missouri, and Kaily Pipkin (Rulon) of Cedar City, Utah and thirteen grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her father, Lawrence Gifford, and her brother Lawrence Ray Gifford.

Initial viewing will be held Friday, November 12, 2021, between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M. at Spilsbury Hurricane Valley Mortuary located at 25 N. 2000 W. in Hurricane, Utah. Prior to the funeral, a viewing will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021, between 8:30 and 9:30 A.M. at the LDS Chapel located at 274 S. 100 W. in Hurricane, Utah followed by the funeral services at 10:00 A.M. Interment will take place in Spendlove Ranch Family Cemetery, Smith Mesa, Washington County, Utah.
