Our beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend Alisa Ashlee (Ledee) Holden, died on August 24, 2023, at her home in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
Ledee was born September 23, 1971, in Provo, Utah, to Sue Shillander Thompson and James D. Thompson. She was born into a loving family and was raised in the beautiful Flathead Valley in Montana. It was there that she fell in love with the beauty and majesty of nature, which remained with her throughout her life. From an early age, Ledee felt in harmony with the outdoors. The peace and beauty she found there remained with her for the rest of her life. Ledee was a phenomenal athlete and participated in nearly every sport growing up.
In the summer of 1986, Ledee and her family moved to St. George, Utah, where she graduated in 1989 from Pine View High School. In St. George, Ledee fell in love with the beauty of the red rocks in the southwest desert. She would spend most of her days exploring every nook and cranny the desert had to offer. She was a female pioneer in rock climbing in Southern Utah and helped establish many of the popular climbing routes in the area.
In the summer of 1989, she married Matt Limpert, and had her first son, Jake. After her divorce, she met Horace Holden Jr. while guiding on the Colorado River. Her marriage to Horace took her to the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, where she finally fulfilled her childhood dream of having a beautiful “little house in the woods.” In North Carolina, Ledee was able to breathe new life into a neglected, pre-civil war era, little cabin and where she honed her skills of motherhood and homesteading. She spent her time raising her boys in the lakes, rivers, streams, and wilds of the Smoky Mountains.
In the early 2000’s, Ledee and her family moved to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, just above Chattanooga, Tennessee. The beauty of that area fed her spirit of adventure and calmed her soul. There she continued to foster the love of her family and the land. Lookout Mountain was a perfect area for her to rescue and love many stray dogs, animals, and people. For the next two decades, she built a beautiful, fruitful homestead, along with her partner Joshy, where she raised her four strong boys, many dogs, goats and chickens, and anyone who needed a helping hand who crossed her path.
Ledee once described herself as an “energetic girl who likes to be scared.” Everyone who has ever met Ledee knows she is unique, a one-of-a-kind spirit. She is a lover of mystery and a believer of magic. She is a true patriot who loves her country and her Heavenly Father. Ledee had a knack of finding beauty in the most unlikely places and people. She is an artist, a musician, an athlete, a beauty, and a badass. Her energy is boundless, her love is timeless, and her spirit and memory will live forever.
Ledee is survived by her sons, Isaac Holden, Simon Holden, Oliver Holden, and Henry Holden, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, her partner Josh Randolph, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, her parents Sue and JD Thompson, St. George, Utah, her siblings, Chris Mayberry, Jamee Nyberg, Dustin Thompson (Whitney Thompson), Micah Thompson, and Jenee Thompson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends who adore her. She is preceded in death by her oldest son Jake, and her nephew Noah Nyberg.
