Robert Terrance "Terry" Mendenhall of Las Vegas, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011. He was born June 24, 1949, in Provo, Utah to Robert L. "Bob" Mendenhall and Paula Clements Mendenhall. He was married to Vyonne Spilsbury on June 14, 1969, which was later solemnized for eternity in the St. George, Utah Latter-Day-Saint Temple. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend to many in the community. At the age of four, his family moved to Las Vegas from Springville, Utah where he continued to live, graduate from Western High School, marry, and raise his family. A dedicated family man - his favorite hobby was spending time with his family. Whether coaching youth soccer teams, attending dance recitals, watching his 16 grandchildren participate in their many events, or sitting at the Thomas & Mack Center cheering on the UNLV Runnin' Rebels - Terry was always there. He was an avid supporter of the men's basketball team and worked with his family and the University to make the Mendenhall Center a reality. His most enjoyable times were spent with family traveling the world and regularly visiting Lake Powell, Kolob, Utah, and Baja, Mexico. Working construction since he could hold a shovel, he continued his career as a company leader at Las Vegas Paving and was known as a man of integrity that anyone was honored to work with. Many of his achievements in the construction industry stand as milestones that have positively impacted the growth of Las Vegas. His years of service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints working with the youth, planning community activities, and ministering touched the lives of many. Terry's leadership and self-sacrificing spirit will be missed by all those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his sister, Valerie. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Vyonne; parents, Bob & Paula; brother, Marc; sister, Lori; children, Jason (Lisa), Heather (Devon) Dahl, Ryan (Kelli), Joshua (Becky), Teryn; and 16 grandchildren. Eastern Ave. In consideration of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints missionary fund at http://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/missionary/. Terry's dedication to ensuring financial barriers never prevented young men and women from serving a full-time mission was one of his priorities.
